Wing Edge Sanding

Spent two evenings sanding the wing edges after having worked the over two weeks to build the wings. Had to cut out notches for so that the air intakes fit properly as instructed in the plans.

Wing Mid-Section Madness

It required a fair amount of analysis of the plans to get this far of the mid section of the wing. It's the area of the kit I have been dreading the most due to its complex inverted gull wing design. To be honest its not that hard to build, understanding the plans has been a challenge... The instructions themselves are very vague with additional comments in the plans so careful examination of the drawings was required. Despite the slow progress for this section it is coming along well and looks perfect.

Fuslage Complete

Completed the fuslage today, plane starting to take shape.

U-96 Photo Shoot

Complete!

Well today I completed the U-96 and am glad to have accomplished another kit. While this is one of the smallest kits I have built so far I'll admit the low time to build (524 minutes or 8 hours 44 minutes in this case) is attractive versus the typical 30-40 hour range I experience with larger kits however I found it to be less fun to build as the parts are very tiny and there is not as much detail. Weathering also proved to be difficult and I find that on a shelf with other scale models it does not look as impressive due to the small size. Overall I like the kit but would probably prefer building it in a larger scale.

Flag

The submarine has been sitting on my workbench for a little while now with only the flag remaining. Its a decal that you fold in two and is supposed to go over a pole but it fell off before I was able to spray a flat coat. I decided to try and just glue (gel) this very thin flag to the pole with super glue and it worked to my surprise. It adds a nice punch of color to this otherwise very bland paint scheme.
